I know it's a Suzuki but who cares? I can ride this thing as hard as I want and if it goes down oh well. Track skins and a total strip of everything I do not need (headlights, signals, etc) and she will be ready for the track, oh yea I have to get her started she has been sitting for 6 years. 😁 I pic it up tomorrow.

Nice lateral approach. Racing is a big black hole that your throw hundred dollar bills into. Now the totally throw away approach has got to be cheaper.
One decent 888 track bike is say AUS 20-35,000. Your little rice burner is AUS$4-6000. You can crash it totally 6 times. Just knowing that has to be worth a few seconds of the lap time.😁

I've got a couple of mates pestering me to dust off my old racing leathers and do a few trackdays with them on the 851/916.
I said I'd do it if I had something that I could afford to crash, they rather stupidly said "Just don't crash Steve"... 😏
Like that's not going to happen, the whole point of batting around a track for me is to push myself and the bike to the limit.
How could anyone possibly know those limits until they've pushed beyond them?
If I had the spare cash (like that's going to happen 6 kids!) I'd be looking for a Yamaha 2 stroke twin, (I've owned and raced many over the years, both Air and Watercooled ) the parts are cheap and if you bin the bike you can usually kick it straight again.
A tuned RD400/LC350 would be just the job for me, enough poke to lug this old boy around and still be well within my 'comfort zone'/wallet capacity.
A very good friend of mine regularly embarrasses Fireblade etc owners on twisty tracks (like Cadwell in the UK) with a self tuned Benelli 2C and an Aprilla RS125.

i used to have a KR1S that i bought to learn to ride on and for track days. had the choice of buying it or paying rent the week before a track day, so i borrowed money for the rent. because it was relatively slow it made me ride faster and chasing faster bikes was always the best way to motivate me. loved that 2,000 rpm between 8,500 and 10,500. got sick of replacing pistons with holes tho. i'd go 4 stroke if doing it again, couldn't think of anything better than a gsxr750. well, given how badly i ride these days, a 400 is probably more my speed.

although i do have an issue with the "can afford to crash it" train of thought. crashing is ok, even seemingly minor injuries resulting from said attitude might not be.

one thing about the buying a cheap late model thing over running an older bike is the better suspension and lighter weight. anything with upside down forks can't be too bad and fixed, but my M1R front end is still crap on bumps even after being played with and it used to just put me off trying to ride the thing fast in the end.

I did a track day at Carolina Motorsport Park last Sat. and Sunday. The only bike I have running is my Suzuki DR650 (one lunger). Even with Pirelli dual purpose tires I had no problem passing lots of larger bikes, until the straight came that is. Kind of fun passing 996's on a 650. I've got an old 75' Yamaha XS 650 that I've been thinking about making into a track bike but now am in the process of buying a S4R engine (996) and throwing it in all of my spare parts for a track bike. It should be fun especially with the carbon fairings that I got from Robert with the 851 decals on it! 😁

Thats an ugly bike made out of design, how could anyone get the idea to route both pipes under the chain, it's hard enough to route one.

The beauty of the 851, 888 design is just that it is not present, it was made for a purpose. That bike is the opposite.

Henrik, please dont get me wrong I am actually in love with my 888😱

And would never feel like this over a naked monster

But I do have a soft spot for naked Ducati's as under the fairing is as gorgeous as outside.

+ the spec on the 955 motor means it will be a hoot to ride, I could lean it on a tree to park, get it covered in dirt up tracks with potholes visiting friends a and not care and after a while I could pop the motor in my frame😯

Next serious investment in a bike for the road will, I am fairly sure be a Monster but it will need two seats though.

Hmmmm that said I would like a prillia 250 as well
