Yes they tax the import, charge for THE Royal MAIL to collect the tax and then charge VAT (Value added Tax) on the gross amount. But only if you get caught for the tax!
If you can get the sender to mark the package 'Gift' or 'Sample free of charge' or 'To be repaired and returned to the country of origine' or even get them to mark it as value only $10.
The customs officers aren't/won't be really interested, they're more interested in Drugs/Narcotics and Hard core porn
The best one is to get a friend to have them posted to his home in the country they're coming from then post them on as a Xmas gift at this time of the year...
Of course all of these scams aren't 'strictly legal' and I would never condone this type of behaviour.
But I've heard of some people who would defraud HM's tax collectors in this way, they're of course VERY NAUGHTY PEOPLE.
Of all the Ducati spares dealers in the States that I know of, only one flatly refuses to get involved in this sort of underhand scam and he's an Army reservist who lives down in The Orange State, I think his initials are LT something or other...
I hope that no one out there will use this information in the wrong sort of way.
