Hi all,
I'm after a 888 or 851 that needs rebuilding, I'm not even after a full bike, front end, wiring and engine are not necessary as I will be putting in a 748 engine or a ST3 engine, Your thinking how odd! I currently race in Bemsee's Thunderbike series with a 748.
I've been toying with the idea to have an 851 as my spare race bike and to use it as a Track day bike.
Oh the reason for the engine configuration is that the rules state that the max cc for a 4V desmo is 748 however a 2v or 3V desmo can be upto 1000cc. The Vyrus that Phil Read Jnr rides is an 3V and I've been speaking to them about engines ;-). Even their old 2V engine.
I do own a 1989 851 already but I would like to keep this as an original road bike.
Any help would be most helpfully.
Henrik
If you go for 748 then please take a lot of pictures when you modify for the swingarm bearings, could be helpful if someone tumbles over a 1098 or 1198 engine in the future.

I'm sure that you know this already Henrik, but 748 internals can be built into 851/888/ST4 cases without any problems.

Now I know.
But agree, the thought of 1098/1198 is tempting! Who will be first?

1098/1198, I think would be just a tad too much for the 888 set up. Have you had a go on one? Stinky death powerful engines. Rude amount of power on the 1198.

Never tried one, but a tad to much sounds fun. Anyway, I won't be the first, I have just changed engine in my bike and it needs to be worn out before I start thinking of doing the same thing again.

I think we are stealing Mbracing's thread, apologise

As well as the 888 I own a st3 and have for the last 5 years, use it for everyday use and a bit of euro touring. Think the 3v engine is lovely and always wonder why Ducati didn't use it more. Just the right amount of torque/top end revs for road riding.
Mine has open air box, k&n filter and sil-motor system and easily out torques the 888, however obviousy the 888 takes off after 5-6k the 3v doesnt'!
However trying to find a donar 851/888 frame could be the problem, thought about getting a wrecked st3 and keeping the engine/frame and changing the yokes/forks and swing arm (alloy monster would fit). Sure it wouldn't be that hard to fit a 851/888 fairing to it. Wheels would also fit (and lighter than org 851/888).
Just a thought!
