It all started two years ago with a click on ebay and suddenly I was the proud owner of a 851 strada from 91. A nice bike that had been sitting for five years so it needed some maintenace but she was in a very good used condition.
Very soon I realized the the 851 "superbike" was not much of a superbike as she just has about 85 or so hp at the backwheel which is 40-45 less then my monster so she did not have very big balls. Upgrades were needed.
Last summer another click on ebay made me the owner of a S4R (996) engine. Plans were done for the winter. 996 engine should go in. She should be ready to startup in February to give some time to sort out snags and do a bit of tuning before the summer.
A bad case of mid life crises made me the owner of a motocross bike in september so I spent every day on the motocross track before the winter, then a bit of holiday in NZ in january and at the same time I ended up getting married by some reason. A lot of things totaly out of my control ๐
Back from holiday full of motivation the project started in February.
First thing was some work on the new engine. The squish were adjusted to 0.90mm, 996 SPS cams were installed and timed to 107/107. A general checkup were done on the engine. All systems goo.
The plan were to replace all electrics with 916 parts as my bike is a P7 bike and the engine as a P16 engine.
Several Ebay clicks later I was owner of a lot of 916 parts. Wiring looms, ECU, sensors, switches and soo on.
Here are some pictures
The old engine.
Box with things not needed any more.
The 996 engine installed. S4R has 12mm engine bolts and 851 has 10. Nothing that could not be solved with a drilling machine, a few drills, a reamer and ebay. 999 bolts fits perfect after some modifications
