The forum helped me through the border

Going to Magny Cours something very odd happened. On the border between Belgium and France we were stopped by two officers. There is a strange feeling of guilt coming over me in those situations. It totally weared, I'm paying my taxes, I'm nice to my kids and wife and the biggest crime I committed must be some speeding in the past. But when the officer comes I always get the feeling that I'm going to get busted.. even when they are nice as those gentlemen were. This time the officers asked were we where going and got interested when they found out the final destination, "open the van". Obviously they were interested by motorcykles. "Oh a 888, I got 3 of them, but I recognise this one" said the officer who turned out to be Phil911. Hi Phil, we had a terrific week, unfortunately there were no photos taken during the sessions since me and my son ended up in the same group.
The bike works fine and is fast enough to keep up with the modern sportbikes, great fun!

A officer having 3 Ducatis 888??? yea right!! Oh its PHill, oh ok, I belive you.
Some ears ago me and some mates with Ducatis ware also stoped by police officers and they only wanted to look at the bikes, one has said to me, "I remember to see Carl Fogarty racing this one in Estoril" 😁

Let me tell you how I've been able to guess you were a forum member :
When you opened the lateral door of your van, I immediately reconized the switches located on the right side of your dashbord, but I was unable to remember your nickname ... 😏

I'm glad to read how you both enjoyed your track days ...
Have you been able to use the 6th gear before Adelaïde curve ??? 😁

I confess it's a surprise to discover my face on the forum in such a situation, but I assume ... the moment which was unexpected but funny !!!
Back home, I narrated the situation to Madam.
She didn't believe me till ... today !!! 😄
Her response was unexpected too : "Phil, you should take this member as an exemple !!! He's courageous enough to cross the half of Europe for few rounds on a french circuit, whereas you hesitate to drive 500 kms with a van to get an identical riding pleasure !!!"
She's right ... and feel now a bit ashamed towards you ... 😏

Hi Phil,

Yes, the track was big enough for the 6:th gear, which is not the case with our "home circuit" which is really more suited for go-carts. What was really impressing was the level of safety. Absolutely impossible to hit fences etc.

And it's really not a sacrifice to spend time for going to the track with my 21 year old son. We were going with transponders all week so we could have a family competition which ended up with the son being beaten by 0,4 s! (Thats quality time spent with your kids).
This sunday will be the next opportunity for me on the track, this time without my son, I have to practise more than him to stay in front since he is braver than me

I think it's cuite uncommon to have a wife that push you for going to track days, take care of her!

On the way back we were routed via Paris by the GPS so we did not have the opportunity to stop by the same border to say hallo again.

---> Here's the main difference between "Able or Unable" to use the 6 th gear !!!

---> I agree with you ... I think she's fond of Ducati more than me, she knows what Desmo means and how it works while I ignore what cooking means .............................

---> There's a joke here about this technology, especially when the computer is on trouble ... We say the computer program delete the whole of data to Go to Paris Safe !!!

If there are any secrets which helps in those situations we would need them. Going out of Germany we were stopped again, this time the officer showed us that he had a gun! My son had not shaved during the whole week and he is a former wrestler who spends a lot of time in the gym. With a hat, sunglases and the beard the terrorist look was enough to frighten the German police!

So, if you know any secrets to pass smoother, please share them!
