Ducati 888 SP5 OEM Grips - Original Part No: 037054910.

Hello.

I realise that this a long shot, but is there anywhere that might supply the Ducati 888 SP5 Original Grips with original part number: 037054910?

I am aware that the original part number has been superseded, but am hoping for the best!

Any advice, comments or suggestions would be most welcome.

To confirm the overall appearance of the original grips, I’ve attached an image of the near side grip, which is the better of the two.

RTD They were, I believe, called MiGrips. I managed to pick up an original set years ago. TBH they are pretty flimsy and the newer grips are far better. I still have the OEM grips on my bike, but I have a set of ant-vibration grips ( like these - https://grip-puppy.com/ ) over the top which has the added benefit of preserving the standard fitments.

The image in your post contains a background link to: https://www.unmuessig-moto-italia.de/ , who apparently sold the grips previously in Germany.

So I know the grips are: MiGrips made by the company of that name in Italy, the web address is: https://www.migrips.com/ , but it does not appear to be accessible currently.

I have emailed the German supplier to see if they can help, and I’ll provide an update when I know more.

Time for an update on the OEM Bar Grips.

Using the magnificent information provided by KevB, I managed to contact a dealer in Germany who had stocked and sold the OEM grips originally, and I now have a pair of the grips that he had retained. So, they are now awaiting fitting to the bike, when the weather warms up!

I have attached images of the front and rear of the box holding the grips, which has more information about the manufacturer and distributor.

pretty remarkable they found a set. I do wonder if the rubber will be ok ? You’ll have to let us know

Serjames They’re fine - I bought a set years ago, but but never fitted. The OEM are still on my bike but are covered. Personally, it is unlikely I will ever fit the OEM grips but they will be availble with the bike if/when I sell.

The grips are new old stock, and I agree it was a very long shot!

I’ve examined them, and to the untrained eye they look to be in good condition, and certainly better than the originals that are quite degraded.

However, in the interest of erring on the side of caution, I have also bought a pair of the Ducati replacements, and as KevB said, they appear much more robust but look quite like the originals, so I am considering fitting those for general use, and keeping the originals in reserve.

I am also searching for some other parts, so that when I have what I need, and hopefully the weather has improved, I’ll fit them ready for a test ride.

Incidentally, I’ve been advised not to use polish on the silk/matt finish applied to the frame and wheels, so as not to make it shine. Have any other owners come across this, and found a solution? If I remember correctly, my 916 had a a similar finish, and almost without thinking I just cleaned and finished it with what I used to clean other models, and don’t recall any detriment.

All suggestions and advice are welcome.

I would clean thoroughly and then I tend to dab / spray ACF50 (or your favourite corrosion inhibitor of choice on the welds and any small chips or marks. That’s it.

I know a good DRY ICE detailer who’s a massive classic car and Ducati fan - does lots of high end pieces for collectors if that’s of interest:

He’d be able to get the bike back to Minty fresh clean and then allow any prep or protection to be applied to a completely clean bike. The service is not cheap as the kit and CO2 is costly. but one session can do multiple bikes, so he does group discounts if that’s of interest to anyone else ?
