The other day I took the 888 out for its monthly/bi monthly jaunt. It was ok but just not quite feeling as gnarly as it usually does. And idle didn’t stabilise at 50° water temp. I’d check fuel level but hadn’t taken a whiff.
When I got back, that ever so slight turpentine smell.
Sucked out the offending fuel with my el cheapo 12v transfer pump off eBay, and replaced it.
Old fuel was 3 month old. Apparently stabilisers give you a bit more time. Not running any of the ethanol rubbish (sorry I do feel for those places where ethanol fuel is the only fuel available) just unleaded 95. The bike gets a bit too towy for the Rd on 98. Compression 12.2:1 static. It does this cute squeal/squeak on shut down sometimes. Which means in pinch 100LL avgas would do. Flat tops, you have to love them.
Anyway, ran the pump a couple of times, started it up, it was still warm about 50° straight to stable idle with the garl back again. Instatune! 😀
Steve if you’re reading this, the difference between a bevel and 888 is cosmic. Been running in the Endurance racer, 100km jaunts 1100km so far mostly at 4000-4200. (This morning spent some time loading and unloading to 5000). Felt like home as they do. They just want to make you be naughty. Then jumped on the 888, damn it what’s the screen doing way down there. Oh silly power, brakes, suspension. Careful Griffy.
