FYI OEM looking MOSFET voltage regulator

For those of you like me who tries very hard to keep their bikes looking as OEM as possible, this may be of interest. I came across a company, Duc or Die making MOSFET voltage regulators that resembles the original OEM one, even with the correct connectors. I just purchased 2, one for my SP2 and one for my Superlight. I will report back once I receive and test them.

Having had a reg rec fire a few years ago now, can I say with the installation behind the steering head yoke is not a good thing. Needless to say I have a battery isolate flick switch mounted above the battery now. A MOSFET runs way cooler. Might be less of a worry in its original position.

I have a Ricks MOSFET mounted underneath the battery.

Very interested in your feedback on this, Tommy, especially on overall dimensions fitting with the OEM frame setup on your 851 SP2. Let us know if it is « plug and play ».

guillaume69 I will absolutely provide my feedback. The regulators should arrive next week from Germany. The seller assures me that is is the same dimensions as the original.

OK in case anyone is interested, here is the Duc or Die voltage regulator compared to the OEM one. They are identical in size and have the same connectors so it should be plug and play. I will test this out shortly.

Tested the Duc or Die MOSFET regulator on my 1993 Superlight and it seems to work fine. At idle (1100rpm) it outputs 13.3v and at 3000rpm it outputs 13.8v. I let the bike run at idle for about 5 mins and the regulator got barely warm to the touch.

One thing to consider is the bullet connectors are a little smaller than OEM so they don’t fit snugly into the wiring harness. That issue was easily fixed by taking some pliers to the female bullet connectors and squeezing them a bit smaller. Be gentle as you can easily collapse the connector and thus making it too small. I had to insert an Allen key into the connector to open it back up.

Anyway, so far so good with this regulator.
