SP2 fuel cap very difficult to remove!

Hi everybody. On my SP2, I find it very difficult to remove the gas cap. It sometimes takes me 15 mins to wiggle it out and I still have not figured out the secret to remove it. Does any other SP2 owners also have this problem? Is there a solution?

I never had a problem with my SP2-- there is nothing special about the SP2 gas cap. It was used on several 1990 and earlier bikes. Try a bit of silicone grease on the rubber seal once you can remove it. It is a common flip up the lever and twist. I would also check if the two wide tangs are fully lined up when you install it so that a 180-degree twist aligns the two tangs squarely in the center of the gaps. Look at it and you will see what I am talking about. If not I will pull out one of my spare aluminum fuel cap assemblies so you can see what is going on when you open and close the cap with the lever. This is the same design used on the later Corse bikes but in carbon rather than aluminum which was also used on the early Corse bikes.
