I have finished Erv Kollek's 1993 World Super Bike ridden by Carl Fogarty.
It was pretty tattered and missing many correct parts which Ferracci removed or modified when he raced it in '94. That said, This has been the most original '93 Factory Works Corse that I have worked on-about 95% original. Small bits like all of the factory Ti fasteners are rarely found on the Works bikes once they have been handed down to other teams or owners. Only my '89 Factory Works bike retains almost all of its original parts.
I stripped the bike down and pulled off the frame. I fabricated and sourced the parts needed, refreshed the front forks, and set the valves which is much easier with the frame off. I had to mill many custom parts to duplicate what the factory and Foggy's mechanic Bass used on this bike.
I have to say that Bass did an amazing job making modifications to this bike to make it easier to set up and to quickly service.
The hardest and most interesting part I had to recreate from period photos was the rear brake system that Bass fabricated to eliminate the factory's torque rod which both Foggy and FalIapa kept snapping. The factory finally fixed this problem on the '94 Customer Racing Corse bikes by designing the '94 only rear swing arms to have a peg and bracket more like the street bikes. But Bass did this first on the '93 swingarm. Bass provided Fallappa's mechanic with the same system and that is why you will see period photos of Fallappa's bike having no torque rod.
I fabricated a few samples before I milled the final bracket. Marvin anodized all of the parts I milled.
Erv and Marsha came yesterday to get it started. She started right up and idled nicely.
I posted a short video on my Facebook page if you are interested. I also believe that Mike C posted it on one of the 888 forums he runs,
I have many more photos if anyone is interested.
I immensely enjoyed finishing out another Factory Works Corse for a good friend.
