Following an event years ago ( first vid) , I decided to embark on a mission. That mission was to turn my S2, which I clocked up a billion miles on, into something more fitting. First I built a shed. Then filled it with stuff needed for the project, all carefully hidden from my wife. (We still need a new washing machine). Note the colour of the shed so she wouldn't notice it. Then began years of contemplation and building and modifying bits.

To my amazement. It actually works. Still mucking around with fine tuning of suspension sports valves in 38mm marzocchi) and carbs. Down to 93 main jets in the 40mm Dellorto's, considering normally they run around 155's, have to say it seems it's all in the port work.
40/36 valves. 10.7 inlet lift cams. Pistal high comp race pistons. Nothing special at all there. High capacity oil pump. Straight cut primaries ( that the whirring noise) with full Aluminium clutch assembly.
Does it hammer? Shit yes! Does it make an unbelievable noise? Of coarse, aren't they supposed to. Am I too old for this shit. Nope.

I returned from the Isle of Man MGP/Classic races a week ago. I rode my old Bevel there and back covering just over 1,500 miles, was there for 11 nights and...
My aging back is still hurting today, I rode the old girl in the style that I'd done as a young 20+ year old, cruising her at 120+ mph, with Liverpool to home (around 350 miles) covered in under 4 1/2 hours inc' 2 fuel stops and a coffee break.
The conclusion is that I'm not 21 anymore. TBH I think it might be the last time I cover that sort of mileage on the old girl.

I hear you’ve Steve, have done sod all riding in the last few years, and starting from scratch tuning the sports valves in the forks, I’m paying for it. Due to our wonderful roads, just doing a few of the 16km circuits, last two days have been spent waiting for the headache to dissipate from well excercised neck muscles, kidney punch ache now gone, clutch hand fingers not working in the morning, but getting better. Ankle is still swollen a bit from a nasty kick back while pissing around with carbs. And I can finally see again after some major eyeball rattling. At least on the last run I got eyeball rattle to almost disappear.
Onwards and upwards I say.

PS, I love my 888, raw but a damn side more body friendly. How screwed up were we in the younger days clocking up billions of Kms being thrown about on a high speed jackhammer. Bloody good fun but!

Hey ya, Steve, Ive mothballed both the 851 and the 888 to enjoy the ST4s ( cant afford full regos ).
The 900GTS is on classic plates .......
Fitted lifter blocks so the back is more upright: just did a weeks riding the Snowy Mountains and loving it...... hope you'all are ok over there: tilll next Manx?

Possibly not the Manx, it depends on how the program lines up?
Who knows what they'll do to try and f'ck it up further?
There was a feeling on the Island from regular race goers that the powers that be are trying to kill it.
If the weather had turned bad there was a real possibility that we might have seen no racing at all.

The Pre TT Classic races are also a possibility, the last time I went over for that is was great.
