Wiring from fuel sender inside tank

On replacing the fuel filter I found that the wiring from the sender to the top of the pump is not secured in anyway just hanging loose, so to speak in the fuel when the tank is full. Is this correct? and if not how should it be done please. The wires I am referring to are the silver and copper coloured ones paired together with black tape

I've no wish for any chafing to be going on inside the tank with possible dire consequences

I am curious, do you recall the aluminum dounut/cylinder on the sender, is it fixed or does it slide up and down like a float? I am refurbishing my spare tank innards and noticed the piece is fixed. Not moving? Is this correct or is it corroded? Thanks!

Hi,
the piece is fixed.
It's a Thermistor, that changes resistance with temperature.
If it's covered with fuel it's cooled, if not it heats up and your fuel lamp will start glowing.
