Many people have modified the mounting points to accept an aftermarket rear seat unit without changing the rear subframe, but this can be fiddly, especially with trying to make use of an original Strada seat pad that bolts to the frame and not the seat unit.
I converted my 1993 888 Strada on Boxing Day to a single rear seat. I managed to find a steel SPO original rear subframe and a battered set of ex race fairings that needed some TLC, with replica single rear seat unit with the hole for the rear bum pad.
Undertray and rear light and all other parts are the same.
2 things to consider with the rear subframe:
1. The rear reservoir for the shock on the Ohlins equipped bikes goes on a triangular bracket on the left side of the rear subframe, but as I have a Showa one, I made up a duplicate of the Strada bracket and welded it to the correct position of the subframe, so mine has 2 brackets now in case I want to go Ohlins in the future.
2. The position of the exhaust hangers mounting points on the correct SP rear subframe is higher and further back than the Strada. Depending on the silencers you have, you may need to make up some new ones, like I did.
