Hi. I have just brought an '91 851 s3. I also have a 996 and streetfighter 848. I tried the 851 out a few days ago and noticed at about 7200rpm's that it cut my fuel while i was open throttle. Is there the red line or some kind of limiter? At the other bikes the limiter is not so brutal, that's why i am asking if there is anything wrong?

There is a rev limiter (on my '92 851 when I had the original engine) , But it cut out above 10K

The rev limiter is mapped into the ECU chip, my '92 851 would run well past 10K rpm.
If your bike's stumbling at 7.200 there's something wrong with it chap.
Here's the rub though if you want your 851/888 to be reliable you shouldn't rev it past 10K rpm.
10K+ rpm will eventually crack the crankcases between the V of the motor, which is why it's a good idea to tune them to make peak power at under 10K rpm.

One thing I remember: In first gear the rev limiter "hit" at lots lower RPM's. I finally figured out that the mechanical tachmeter could not keep up. It was fine in the taller gears!

if the voltage regulator is mounted with the original well nuts, remove them and solid mount it.
if the voltage regulator is solid mounted, fit some original well nuts so it has some movement.
also, as marvin says, tacho can be slow.

Thanks a lot for the answers. I only ran 1st and 2nd gears in so high rpm. I will try the rest of the gears also and see. I thought maybe is a fueling problem, but I think there are little chances since in both gears it happens around the same rpm.
