Alternate P8 Diagnostic software: IAWScan2

Hi all -

I just posted this on another forum, but I suspect that it may be of more use here...

Whilst investigating a potential problem on my 916, I thought I'd dig out the cable to connect it to IAWDIAG (GuzziDiag / IAWDiag), which helped identify what I think the issue is. However - I've also just stumbled across another piece of software written for the P8 that I've never seen referenced previously, and thought I'd give it a try.

Using the same (Lonelec) cable that I use for IAWDIAG, I ran the IAWScan2 app (IAW Scan2: home) and selected IAW-04K (P8) as the ECU type. I suspect (but don't know for sure) that this isn't the exact model of P8 that we use, but I figured that the comms protocol would likely be the same. Turns out that it works just fine, and looks pretty useful, particularly with the ability to chart parameters over time.

I haven't tried it yet, but I expect it'll also work just fine on my 888 also.

I’m kidding, I haven’t tried it yet. I have been delving in fiat/lancia tuner forums and found a few interesting tools also. I may compile a list of the most useful ones. It gave me the idea to possibly hack in Lambda support for the 888! The P8 has connections for it. Turbo boost too! �� I just have to reverse engineer the bin to find the lambda instruction set and figure out a suitable fuel/CO multiplier ratio. No biggie. ��

Any links to the software? (My google finger is broken) 😉

Oops - sorry, I thought I'd included all links.

I suspect lambda sensor and enabling open/closed loop mode may well be possible, but as you say it'll require a disassemble of a bin file and a lot of time to really understand what it's doing.

Well, in my case, I've identified that the engine temperature sensor is misreading, which I believe was affecting startup. While that can be found by testing the resistance over a temperature range, it can be useful to understand exactly what the ECU is seeing, and how it translates the electrical resistance of the sensor to its temperature value.

A replacement sensor should be getting delivered this week.

Check resistance of sensor against published specs. Check wiring too! Could be wiring/vad ground? You will find out soon enough! 😄

Thanks, yes, exactly - all that was done. In fact, I was fortunate enough to have an old 888 sensor on the shelf, so I was able to plug that in, and confirm that the ECU readings were very different. Once I have the new sensor, I'll be able to install fully, and hopefully confirm that there is an improvement.

While investigating the the swapping of a p7 for a p8 yonks ago, I discovered that a p8 is a p8. It was used by Ferrari, fiat, motor guzzi and probably a few other manufacturers. The EPROMs were the only thing that is different.

BTW, IAWDiag logs parameters as well if you go into preferences and tick log parameters' or whatever it is. I forget. 😄
