Nux wroteNice calipers Ducati dad, both!
Just for clarification: weren't those monoblocs only installed on the early 916 racings and not on the 888? Or am I wrong in this?
I'm using those other calipers on my bike.
You are correct-- these were only used on the early 916 Corses.
As far as different calipers for carbon versus steel rotors- my '93 Works bike has carbon rotors but uses the same large calipers used with the steel narrow band rotors. Bikes with or without carbon rotors used the same calipers.
I feel that the only reason the gap is larger at 37 mm is to allow assure that the radial cooling holes in the Ti pucks are always exposed whether being used with either carbon or steel rotors. Also, the extra width makes it easier to pop out the pucks during a rebuild- you cannot split these monoblocks so why not add the extra width since you have the extra body depth for the longer pucks.
My guess-- could be wrong.
