Source for the cheapest carrillo conrods in Europe?

Hi all,

I am a bit down. I fucked up big time, costing me a lot of money.
Just found out that my very slow project is becoming even more expensive. The carrillo's I bought 3 years ago are finally installed in the crankcase, all buttoned up. So today building up the top end, but first let's put the pistons in. Oops, seems my aftermarket pistons have a 21 mm piston pin and the conrods are 20 mm.

I was finally getting some speed in this project, and now this.

So now trying to source new carrillo's with a 21 mm end pin diameter.
Anybody got some ideas where to get these in Europe?
Or perhaps somebody got a great alternative to buying new conrods.

Any advice appreciated!

I belive bushings can be changed, and recall seeing a small tool somewhere, allowing it to done withcases together ..

Lets have a deep drive before you get too udset with your selves

But I believe the carrillo's don't have bushings on the small end, as I understand it they spray some stuff on the inner surface of the pin hole.

they have bushes. but you might find the 20mm small end rods are made to be 20mm, and there's not enough meat in the bush to open them up to 21. certainly worth a shot though.

also check the width of the small end , and make sure the piston goes over the end of the rod. you need 888sp5/916sp rods, but about this time they started going to small end located as well in the corsa bikes, so you need to make sure the pistons and rods match, and the rods are located at one end.

With the small end located you mean that the stability (if that is the word) is no longer provided at the big end but at the small end. And that's why the small end is wider, to provide this stability?

I'd admit defeat, put your pistons up on eBay and buy new pistons. Mucking around fitting little end bushes institute is not going to go well. The reaming is going to load up and possibly crush your big end bearings, unless you make a jig to hold the rod. Just press fitting the bush is going to be a hassle. They are an interference press fit. Not impossible but wow! I read a while back the process involves cool bush, press fit. Get large ball bearing and push through bush, then ream to size.

Yeah Griff, I already admitted defeat to myself. I chose to invest in carrillo's because I expect a rev happy engine with these 748R cams, so stronger lighter conrods as well as S4 cases.

Don't want to fiddle with the carrillo's trying to make it fit, feel that might compromise the strength. Also because I have decided I want to race the bike in the Ducati Klassik in Germany.

And since my pankles also have 21 mm pin diameter I can't use those when I want to build myself an original spec 888SP3 engine (some project for the far future). So I do have use for the carillo's if I can't find a seller for these conrods.

Did you get flat tops or high comp? Flat tops go pretty darn good.

the small end located road rods (996 onwards in 4v) are narrower - 20mm wide, with about 0.3mm clearance in the piston from memory. all road ti rods are small end located.

i did a short video about it. it's just something you need to know about when mixing and matching.

I am looking at these carrillo's (see link below) but am not sure if these are the right ones.
It says suited for all the 851 and 88 types, so I tend to believe these are the big end located ones.
Would be really bad if I order yet another set that won't fit my bike 😡

Spoke with them on the phone but they can't tell me anything about small end or big end located and need to contact people that are having holidays right now.

Germany will up the VAT the first of January, so it would save me some money if I could order this year.

If somebody would share their thoughts on these i would appreciate that.

I already gave them a call (and yes, they are a pleasure to deal with) but the person I spoke to needed to speak with other people for some additional information. I guess because of the christmas holidays this will take a little longer, and I would like to order tomorrow.

I think I'll call them again tomorrow and try to order the conrods.

Bit the bullet, bought the carrillo's.
Probably will take 8 weeks or so before delivery.
Will sell the other ones.
