Original Parts...?!

Can anyone provide an image (front & back) of the fairing v-panel off an 1992 888 SP4 (part # 48410151A) as there seem to be a few questionable parts flying around the interweb in original packaging? Thanks, Kev.

Hi Kev..
I know of 2 main versions .. one for strada radiator ( Black w fan) that one is aprox 20mm higher vs the second version for the Corsa radiator (sps)
I have seen the shorter version in both normal inj molded as Well as GF as seen on this foto. Both from Ducati ..

The latter does not have a number in part and im not sure on that number..

You Can use the shorter on regardless of radiator, but with a strada radiator you will have a 20mm gap under the radiator

So they are both original parts - both with the same part # (on the box at least)? The shorter v-panel is for the SPS only if I understand you correctly. The Strada & SP4/5 use the 20cm deeper panel with the embossed number and Cagiva logo.

Very helpful, as I now undrstand the difference - surprised the part number is the same for both though. That makes tracking down the correct piece tricky unless a picture is available. Will keep om looking :-)

I have seen the shorter version in the injektion molding version as well, but that is just a chopped strada part.. ( same number)

I have a repro CF in the strada / long version ...very nice, belive some one here orchastrated some small series ... dont recall who..

Well I know what I am looking for now. Also looked for carbon versions but everything I have come across is a bit Heath-Robinson - more hole than panel! The quest continues...LOL. Thank you for the help, Cheers, Kev.

Hi Bob, thanks. It looks like there are two different versions (see below) and they are being described as the same part. Trying to find the longer version either OEM or C/F. The phrase '...hens teeth...' springs to mind.

in 2005, ducati sent out a speadsheet listing a heap of parts they were trying to clear to their importers. our importer sent it to the dealers, and the spares guys knew i'd be gagging for it. in au$, about 15 million worth dropped to about 3 million. 48 888 rego plate mount/undertrays! $4.16 each. oh the hindsight. i bought a heap of stuff - 5 spoke marchesini mag wheels for ss, fairing panels, engine cases, monster dp parts.

however, there is a point that only came to light once i received the several thousand dollars worth of parts in 3 large crates direct from the ducati importer. it's a very important point, especially for self righteous people who claim to know everything.

THE PARTS SUPPLIED AS SPARE PARTS IN 2005 UNDER GIVEN PART NUMBERS WERE NOT NECCESARILY THE SAME AS THE PARTS WITH THE SAME PART NUMBER FITTED ON THE PRODUCTION LINE 10 TO 15 YEARS EARLIER.

got that? doesn't mean they're not genuine ducati parts. just not the parts you were expecting.

i bought a set of 851 side panels, but they're actually 888 panels supplied in boxes with the 851 number as they don't have the long rear under piece and they have the bosses to put the threaded bushes into to take the v panel. i also got a painted rh 851 sp3 fairing panel. again, 888 basis panted as 851 sp3. genuine panel? absolutely. same as fitted in 1991 on the production line? no.

as evidenced by the part i took very clear and illustrative photos of and then sent to the usa only for the buyer to throw a screaming hissy fit asserting it to be a fake part.

i think the issue being it was a glass fibre part, not a smooth backed grp part like the original. as per stig's photos.
