Found metal in oil

Hello Everybody
On draining oil from a friend 888 1994 (35mkms),
I found some small circular parts of metal, gripped to the magnetic drain plug - (Nothing in the oil strainer).
I don't feel confortable to announce that to my friend because
I remember that many of 888 in france suffered bad main bearings ajustements (and perhaps also neglected maintenance). 2 pictures attached, one with the plug to estimate the size.

Well, looks like a shaving as opposed to chips from gears. It's magnetic so it's steel. Was there aluminium in the bottom of the sump? Did the oil have aluminium in it? Fine suspended looking sort of like metallic paint. It could be from many places. Bits of thread off a nut. Crank bungs. Or a bit scrapped off a wobbling alternator rotor.
I see two choices. Run it and check for noises then drain oil and see if there is more. Or pull covers and start looking for where they might have come from. I would tend towards the pull covers and have a look. The magnet plug has done its job and is telling you something is going on.

Had a similar clue when I dropped my oil - I ended up stripping the engine down and looks like I just caught the crank pin plug from completely unwinding...
After strip down some more wear adn tear was revealed.

After a run and a new draining, any particule, any noise, no smoke, the engine purrs like a cat.
Wait and see and hear, in a better season to investigate.
