Corbin 851 seat pad/saddle

Strange one this.

I purchased this Corbin seat pad recently from a vendor on Ebay who'd brought it as part of an 851 lot of parts and it didn't fit.

He thought it might fit a 900SL, and after checking the Corbin website I agreed enough to purchase it, thinking that perhaps the brackets had been added by somebody afterwards.

Having received it I can now see that the brackets are original, and although the pad is almost exactly the right size and shape to fit my 900SL seat unit there is no way it will fit with the brackets, there is also a bulge underneath which would stop it fitting, and there are no screw holes.

In a bid to find out what it does fit I emailed Corbin some images, who have told me it's for an 851, but they don't make them any more.
I have also found another identical one online that was advertised in Germany to fit an 851.
But the Ebay seller I brought it from says it didn't fit his.

Can one of you experts confirm please if you think it will fit an 851?

I need to decide if I should cut it up to fit my 900SL seat unit, or offer it for sale to somebody that wants it for it's original purpose.

I think it might be for a later 1992 851 and 1993 888 Strada. Just looks about right.

Looks like a 92-94 strada fit.. i have a set for mono posto ref fotos..

It's the brackets on the bottom which don't appear to make sense, but they look original, and Corbin have confirmed 851.

I've popped it on Ebay for less than I paid for it.

It seams a shame to cut up something so rare that isn't made any more, but if it doesn't sell I'll have another think.

That looks just like the one I bought for my '91. In the ad there was a picture showing it mounted on an 851. But it won't fit mine.

I dunno. I was going to figure out how to make it work but haven't gotten around to it for the past couple of years...

It looks like it will fit a 89/90. The tang without a hole goes under the sub frame rail. Then you lower it down like a hinge and the a bolt goes through the tang with hole which engages in the sub frame tang.

However I bought one to save my sore arse when often covering a few hundred miles in a day and it worked a treat.
I was disappointed with how heavy it was when it arrived from the States though.😱
Later Peter of "ORA NERO" supplied me with a moulded rubber Corse seat pad that did the same job, but only weighed 2/5ths of F'ck all...Result!
The downside it leaves me with a wet arse after riding in the rain for a day or so.
I can't remember for sure, but I seem to recall selling on the Corbin to a forum member who was happy with it.
Horse's for course's sometimes lightweight isn't always the best way to skin a cat.

He must have used open cell foam which absorbs water. Closed cell foam wouldn't

The foam pad had an outer skin/shiny finish on it, but that's now looong worn through.
Bloody comfy on long rides though, if he were still around I'd buy a couple more of them.
