Hello,thanks for accepting me. I just bought my 888 three days ago, an October 94 strada. It had not run for two years but aside from a big leak at the clutch slave cylinder, fixed by cleaning and re polishing, it ran great today for my first trial run, about 60 miles as part of a charity drive. I need to get a new paint job and the proper stickers, and have it looked at by a competent mechanic, I know one nearby who raced Ducatis so it's a no brainer. I even just found a genuine hard copy of the workshop manual. One small thing yet puzzles me so far: how does one reset the trip counter? There's a small knob at the bottom left of the pannel, hard to reach, but it can't be pressed ou turned.

You should be able to wind (turn) knob.

Sometimes theywon't turn unless lubed. Could be stuck

This is for the trip reset and I removed the complete cable, stripped the plastic cover and soaked it in WD40 to remove the rust and make the cable flexible again, due to 2 things. The drive cable sits constantly in a 'U' shape from the knob to the back of the speedometer and the outer pastic coating went very stiff with age and stopped the cable from being rotated as it was stuck in that position for too long, and the rust that had built up on the cable also created resistance. Remove the sheath and soaking and flexing the cable to remove the rust made it work just fine again. It is now just a service task for me to make sure I recoat it occasionally and keep the bike in a dry mancave.
