AndrewS OK, so as I posted on another thread on here, I have a problem with my SP3. Starts OK, rides fine for a few miles, then loses power; almost like it's dropping onto one cylinder - rough as hell, backfiring through the exhaust. Start the bike a few hours later, runs fine, repeat... @Steve R on here quite reasonably suggested an ignition problem, so will check all connectors, maybe replace plug leads, coils? BUT. I just took my 1198S out for a run, and it's definitely not happy. Starts OK but runs rough at low revs (yes, I know it's a Ducati!) and there is a lot of vibration through the pegs, seat etc. Better at higher revs but still doesn't feel right. Seems an unfortunate coincidence that both bikes are running rough. Is it possible that I got a supply of bad fuel? Both bikes run on Esso Supreme + (because it doesn't contain ethanol) and they were filled up at the same filling station within a few days. Or am I clutching at straws? Thoughts appreciated. Andrew
AndrewS griff851 wroteWater in the fuel would be high on the list.Hi Griff What sort of quantity of water would be enough to cause this do you think? Roughly.
griff851 Just some is all I could say.you could try putting large splash of mentholated sprits in the tank. The metho with absorb the water and mix it in with the fuel and burn it if it is water. That’s how we use to deal with it. Half a cup in a car tank. If the fuel was really dirty with sediment then fuel filters will clogged up. This will give lean running, or as in one the other day I had, when the bike got hot pulling up at the lights it’s would stall. Low injector pressure. New filter, problem solved.
