I've been out quite a bit recently on my bike and noticed the temp is around 85 deg normally rising to 100 deg in town traffic, fans come on no probs . Now the air is cooler I've noticed on open roads its dropping to around 65 deg. Is this normal ? Could the thermostat core have been removed? I've searched thermostat but only the complete housing seems to come up. Not too concerned but thought the temp would be more consistent. Any help appreciated as always
Cheers.

Well thats two of us. I did my first ride the other day and watched it sit at 65 for ages but then after a long faster bit of dual carriageway saw it rise from 65 to 80+ then vary between that and just over 90 around the city and local roads.
So far had to battle with the worn out seat lock, but got to check the coolent bottle and on min with no obvious signs of leakage, but will check properly tomorrow. Just been serviced and all coolent hoses replaced.
So far someone has said 80 odd is normal but I too was a bit concerned at the big change. At worst I may have to remove the thermostat and check it opens OK.

A water cooled 4 stroke motor gives it's best performance at around 85C, so that's the temp' you should be aiming for.
The 851/888 fan switch cuts in around 110C and keeps going until the temp' gets below 85C.
The Thermostat is only there help the motor warm up faster, or shut off the rad' if the ambient temp' is too low.
I DON'T think either of you have anything to worry about here, so much so that...
I don't run a fan or Thermostat on my close to 140 rwbhp motor, neither did the Factory Corse/Race bikes.

Cheers. Coming from lots of japanese and more modern italian bikes used to temp gauges rising then sitting at a temperature no matter what. Thanks as well.
