Spark cable damaged

Hi guys,

During a ride, my 888 strada passed on one cylinder.
So, I dismantled to get the problem and I saw that on the vertical cylinder :

In fact, this is my fault, when I Installed the tank, the connecteur pushed on the spark cable and I did not see this....

On the cable is written FIAT, LANCIA :

I looked for a new part on stein dinse, but 51.
Someone here would know a FIAT or LANCIA reference for this part please ?

If it still exists, I guess it may be a little less expensiive.

Interesting, I had the exact same problem with my SP3 (drops onto one cylinder, sometimes goes back to two). Think I'll check the plug leads!

I had a similar problem on my 916cc 851, it turned out to be poor connections with the supplied connector of the Power Commander.
I finally found this out after substituting the coils and replacing the HT leads.
I sorted out this problem by replacing the PC "Multipin" plug with individual connectors for each wire*.

Later removing the Power commander completely and having a chip burned/custom mapped on the dyno. If it's no longer there it can't cause anymore problems!

*So before laying out cash for new HT leads I'd check all of your connectors on the ignition side.

Thanks for that Steve, I'll take the covers off and have a look around. [A damaged plug lead like the OP showed would be nice and easy to find though...] The other thing is that my problem is a bit intermittent - yesterday for example, I rode 30+ miles and everything was fine; then it dropped onto one cylinder, with much back-firing through the exhaust. Limped home (only about a mile) and put it in the garage; a couple of hours later, it fired up and ran smoothly - didn't ride it though.

To me that problem sounds like somethings overheating/breaking down under use and then when it's cooled it returns to how it should be for a short while.
Again 1st things to check are all the connections, checking that they're clean and tight.
However our bikes are now close to 30 years old and HT leads don't last forever, so those and the plugs caps are probably at the end of their useful life by now.
I've probably covered more miles than most on here and replaced my leads/caps a few years ago now, I've had no problems since doing this.
I bought genuine Ducati 748/916/996 leads from JHP making sure to buy 2 of the longer ones.

In the end, I found a couple of leads in my garage, and 888 is on the road again 😁
