Just to give my recent experiance July with None starter (Sp4).
I rode the bike out of back garage around to front knowing that i will be taxing shortly when swopping over from one bike to another.
A week or so later, taxed bike, got kitted up proceeded to start her up, all sound good primed turn over but no Ignition just this strange suction noise when cranking over.
Well I new she was due a Service around September, so call my service tech who has taken care of my bikes for 20 years or more. He came over and though many possabilities but pick up/Ignition related.
Well he gave her the big service as required and established that it was wiring related as all was good with bike. He then strip Connectors and cleaned and has Presto Sp4 barks again, running like a dream.

Thanks Paul, it's encouraging to hear that happy endings are available! I've currently got the fuel injection loom out on the bench for a once over, but no low hanging fruit found.

It really is proving to be a bit of a sod! But ho hum, one step at a time....

So predictably just as summer ends and lockdown looms again (looms, no more looms!) I seem to have cracked it. I've swapped out the ECU for a new P8 (ouch) and now injectors firing as they should on turning over the engine. Now to put it back together and see if this translates into running.

My old P7 has sent me totally up the garden path with conclusion that it wasn't the ECU as it showed same error as the P8 and with its different P7 chip. And the P8 showed error with 2 different SP type chips fitted. Now the new P8 with previously tried old chip is looking good!

Can anyone recommend somewhere they have used for ECU repairs so I can think about having a backup p8 on the shelf?

I can only conclude that the old P8 was somehow fried when I blew the vertical cylinder head gasket as it was running fine until that point (though no visual evidence of any problem inside the ECU).

I'll update when I have it running and have hopefully taken it up the road for a test run..

In the old days a stereo repair shop can repair them. The repairer has to go over the board with an oscilloscope and find the dodgy bit or crap solder joint.
