Has anyone installed 888 silencers on an 851? I understand they're 110MM as opposed to the 100MM version on the 851, which less an .5" difference. They seem to be widely available, whereas the 100M version from the 851 is nearly non-existent.
Either that, or I might bite the bullet and opt for the Silmotor high-mount carbon's instead.
**EDIT** - By the way, I also read that the 888 cans open up the midrange of the bike a bit.

I very much doubt that the larger outer diameter makes a difference to the outright performance.
I think the reason the later models had fatter cans was more about getting the noise down for some markets.
To affect the performance you'd need to change the inner diameter of the cans.
45mm cores give more midrange, 50's will give more top end power and you'll probably not notice any loss in the midrange.

Thanks Steve. Do you think the 888 cans look noticeably out of place on an 851?

It's up to you chap, I doubt that many in the street would actually notice the difference.
If money were no object I'd plumb for Hi level 50mm Termi's or Silmoto's, apart from the stickers/decals most people couldn't tell the difference again.

Thanks Steve. I'm also worried about how it might impact the value of the bike. I guess the wrong factory cans, or an aftermarket, carbon-fiber high mount would make no difference. Someone looking at the bike from a collector/originality perspective may have more of an issue with the wrong Ducati OEM cans, but I'm just guessing.
The OEM cans were damaged when the bike was shipped to me. Otherwise, it's a spectacular machine with less than 1,500 miles on it. I'm just struggling with which direction to take. I guess I could always install a set of Silmoto's, and then simply keep the search on for a mint set of factory cans. 😄

I bought my 888 with High level Termignoni slip-ons and that was exactly what I was after. As I also have a Strada (I am about to do the work to convert to a single seat and modify the spare rear frame I have), I am keeping all of the Strada bits, plus I have sourced the rear foot pegs and original low level cans in the event someone wants to return it to its former 2 seat glory.
