I'm in the final stages of my 851 Lucchinelli Replica replica build. I have the golden Marvics, the reverse cone conti's, the cast iron Brembo's, the carbon hugger, the rear brake with reaction bar and some gold anodised fasteners.
I have one final wish for which I seek some advice. The clutch of those early 851 engines as used in the Tricolore and the Lucchinelli rep is the old Pantah style clutch with the slave cilinder in the clutch cover.
These clutch covers have the letters HC cast in and have the hydraulic lines and bleed nipple on the cover. I would love to have this HC cover with the machined ventilation holes on my 851.
With some effort and old parts like a clutch basket everything can be installed and made to work on the later engines. But can any one tell me if this clutch design is acceptable on a (stockish) 1989 851 and if the effort to squeeze the clutch lever is changed compared to an Oberon later design slave cilinder which is currently fitted.
In other words, will I improve the looks but ruin the bike or is there nothing to hold me back besides money and effort?
Cheers,
william

Hi William,
I had a cracked gear axle with my '90 900 supersport and had to go the other way.
From right side to left.
I didn't feel much difference in function or pulling force.
Love to see some pictures once your ready!
Cheers Matthias
