888 fuel pump and filter

Hi All,

In a bit of a bind, a long way from home with a dead fuel pump, I don't have a workshop manual etc handy, so I need part number (walpro ?) For the pump and diagram of how to connect pump and filter etc. Also what's the white plastic filter like thing in the tank on left side, it seemed to have only one tube going to it ?

Any and all help appreciated.

Can't help with the Walbro part number, but the white plastic thing is a "degasser" to take the air bubbles out of the returning fuel.

Thanks Griff, but that Bosch one looks a bit different to the Walbro one in that it does have the mesh pickup end sticking out a bit, does that matter ?

Also, do you know anywhere where I can get on in Gold Coast / Brisbane area off the shelf without paying Ducati dealer priced ?

Hi John, sorry forgot you have the 888, that link is for the big crinkle edge 851 pump.
An Mx5 pump is very similar, it has spade connectors, I have one in the RR tank. If you have the ability to crimp on spade connectors it's too easy. As it's really just a standard injector fuel pump it will have been used on some car. Perhaps try taking it to Bursons or repco and we what they have. Worst case is a little wire crimping job. You might want go all out and actually get the proper spade connectors plug to fit the pump. I couldn't be arsed and the fuel tank hasn't exploded when I turn on the key yet.
Check your hoses for cracks and deterioration while your there. Gates do submersible hose but it's not cheap. An alternative is red chemical resistant hose from Tony Powell. Way cheaper. The truck world use it for diesel. I soaked a bit in fuel for a week to see if it turned to shit and it didn't so I used it. Just an option to consider.

i bought 50m of the gate stuff a few weeks ago. nowhere near as expensive as it used to be.

Thanks everyone, I was panicking a bit as the bike is going ona transport truck on Tuesday, but I have since found out that the trucking company don't start bikes they are moving, so I can take my time to source a replacement pump.

Also, I will need to replace the green O ring on the fuel filler, can anyone tell me the part number for that ?

Have you tried Arthur at Desmo HQ in Byron Bay for the ring? 66856316. The 916 pump also is supposed to fit with the smaller rubber mount. Ring pt 886400111A
Ill check the Bosch and Walbro numbers in the morning.

Also, I will need to replace the green O ring on the fuel filler, can anyone tell me the part number for that ?

anyone recognise this little fella? part of the 'degasator'? does the degasator even dismantle into separate parts? found in the bottom of my 888 fuel tank, everything looks ok, so its got me puzzled..

Taking the opportunity of a long weekend to strip down my tank, but I'm stuck with removing the degasser.

Can anyone tell me how to detach the degasser ? Do I just pull harder, or is there some trick with the black metal clip things ?

Any help appreciated.

That doesn't look anything like my degasser, not sure if it come apart yet, and I'm yet to get mine out of the tank.
