After a long session in a our recently burnt but now flooded and damp country, which the humidity I can safely say mimics anything the deepest Amazon rainforest can produce. I made a whoopsy. Smudged eyesight enhancers, a desire to finish up asap, dealing with 3 different bike and fatigue, I fitted my Yt12-bbs battery around the wrong way. They fit back to front on the 851/888. Luckily the main 30amp circuit breaker/battery isolation switch I fitted was open. The sparking and the starter motor engaging as I hooked up the terminal should have given me a clue, but no. I fried the regulator diodes. A check you carry out on older reg/rec units is switch your multimeter to the setting that beeps for continuity. It should have a little diode symbol as well. As I need a new reg, here is something new. A regulator that actually works with lithium batteries. This is no mean feet as a mate looked into 2 years ago and it was a technical challenge. Normal regulators do limit the life of lithium batteries, the cbr is on its second one.

Good news. Reversing the terminals only blew crap out of the regulator. Due to pandemic I end up fitting a standard late model 2 wire reg as I had fitted before. It lives again. God damn it sounds cool. New tires next and back on the road scaring crap out of myself, women and children and innocent bystanders!

The Ricks LI regulated rectumfrier as a good thing - I'm currently risking a conflagration by running a LI battery with the standard electronics but as this is on my 999R it's slightly less haphazard than on a Ducati of more advanced years. Still, you can find a lot of stories and pictorial evidence on the Innternet of Things Going Wrong with LI batteries....! I'll get a LI-specific regrec some time in the future....

Now for hooking up the terminals to the wrong posts - a low tech approach is to have your cables routed so they can only be hooked up to the correct terminal as they won't physically reach the wrong terminal.

So fitting an eBay item has finally caught up with me. Dud regulator. Back to Ricks and Revival cycles. Old mate Jeff tells me you can use a 3 phase 14-802, just don't use one of the yellows, Rick is still working on the single phase model for our bikes. Early in the new year maybe is the etic. ( 10 points if you can guess the acronym).
