Danger Mouse Evening all, Looking for a pair of 916SP cylinders, the ones with the 102mm skirt. Idealy 96mm bore but happy with 94mm. For a 955 project I've got simmering. Unless anyone is aware of other cylinders I can use? Cheers,
Mr.R Can't help you with what you want. But I can tell you what's needed to be done with these barrels... Turn down the OD of the skirts to 101m and then machine the C/cases to suit them. This modification leaves enough meat on the skirts for strength and by taking less out of the mouths of the cases leaves them stronger. This info' came from race teams that ran 926/955 Desmoquatro motors. I carried out this mod' on the 916SP barrels that I had bored to 96mm and replated for my 955cc motor. Steve R
Ducal Cylinder part # for racing 96mm cylinder is 12510251A, there was new available a year or so ago on flea bay.
Danger Mouse Thanks for the info chaps. Machining less off the crankcases and a little off the cylinders is interesting..... Whilst I appreciate this is not in the technical section, I was pondering over a beer last night as I think these are going to be hard to come by. I've got a set of sacrificial 748 cylinders, weld build-up and machine back to size. Possibly machine an aluminium slug for the cylinder to prevent distortion whilst welding. Thoughts anyone?
