tubbylad Hello all, anyone in the Northampton area of the UK have one of these I can borrow for a day? Last thing to do before splitting cases and I'm struggling to justify more than £100 for 2 minutes work... Thanks Martin
hindsight I don't have the tool, but I did exactly this on a ST2 engine a couple of weeks back with a standard two leg puller, some heat and a hammer.
Mr.R I also use a 2 legged puller for the job, but mine's a hydraulic one without any need for the heat or hammer. Make sure that you leave the nut on by a few threads though, or the pinion and puller can fly across the workshop. Steve R
griff851 Mine came off using the 2 arm puller, heat, and a hammer. Nearly took out my toes, chipped the concrete and shot off across the garage. 😁 Steve's suggestion is wise. The factory puller is boring by comparison. 😁 You could of coarse go to a ducati shop if local and pay them a couple of bucks to take it off.
tubbylad OK, I put on my big boy pants set up my non hydraulic 2 leg puller (ebay special) with a spring compressor across the legs to stop them splaying and sliding off the back of the gear teeth. 19mm socket, breaker bar and wound it up until the the bar is taking all my weight. Blow torch on, tickle for 5 minutes, tap with hammer as hard as I dare so as not to damage teeth.........nothing .... 1/8th turn more on the breaker bar.... more taps with hammer....harder than I dare.... BANG ...........off it came! So glad I left the nut on. Deep joy!!!!! Thanks for the advice.
