With my previous Ducati, a 1000 Sc, it made a big difference when I swapped the rear sprocket for one with two teeth more. Finally I could use 6th gear on the motorway.
Does the same apply for the early 851? I have installed a 6" wide magnesium Marvic wheel and I fitted a 180/60R17 tyre to it. This tyre is taller and thus I need to change the rear sprocket size. original it is 15-39 and if I would maintain the OEM ratio with the taller tyre it would equalize to 15-40.
What would be best, go for a stock ratio with a 40T or go slightly larger creating a livelier bike with a 41T or 42T?
Cheers,
William
