LED Headlight Bulb Upgrade?

Anyone had a look at the LED upgrade option for the 851 and 888 standard headlights?

Some have a rear fan to deal with the electronics but would require a modification to the rubber boot, but there are some without the fan that seem to be a direct swap.

Anyone with thoughts, or experiences to share?

Hi Chris,

I know exactly hat you mean, as the light of the 25 year old machine seams a bit poor.
One reason for that might be the loss of current on it's way from the battery through the switch (most resistance here i guess) to the headlight.

On my bike I connected the headlight directly to the battery with a new own cable. and two relays.
Together with an up to date Osram Nightbreaker bulb or similar it made quite some impovement.

Motogadget relays are nice and small.

Thanks for this and useful to know. Where did you splice into the existing wiring from the switch too? At the bulb end?

Yes, exactly Chris at the bulb plug end.
It's only two wires of course, the low beam and the high beam.

Depending on your micromotoric skills you could frickle out the two contacts from the plug and crimp on the needed contacts to the relays.
So you would not need to cut the original loom at all.

And I would suggest a fuse to the + wire.

@Bridgland: I really like the Twenty20 H4 Compact LED H4 replacement of which you send the link.
It looks to me to be a plug&plag unit even down to the H4 socket. At $65 it seems too expensive to just give it a try but possibly another forum member already jumped to it and could share his experience.
I bought a 90W replacement H4 bulb to get a bit more light but am a bit anxious about the extra current it draws. Up from 4.5A to 7.5A.

Hi,
My sp4 had the HD LED upgrade, no fan bluish light. The ballet blue and took a fuse out last year on hard-knots pass luckily I had spare fuse & relays under seat (recommend) anyhow bought replacement kit on ebay direct swop and cheap, good upgrade.
