Hello from a new member, considering the purchase of an SP3

I live near Chester, UK and have a small collection of bikes, only one Italian so far, a 1978 Jota

I'd like to add a Ducati, so the search starts here....

Is there a relationship between the number on the headstock and the frame number ?, were they all sequential from a staring point ?

There is no relation of the plaque number on the Headstock to the frame number (SP2 only).
I have a very comprehensive list of SP3 bikes I have collected over the years (Don,t ask for it anybody as its too dangerous to let out).
Give me your chassis and plaque numbers (Engine also if you have it ) and I will do my best to advise.

vin and engine # are within the range i have seen. is the engine prefix zdm888?

From that pic obviously the wheels are the wrong colour (which is no biggy), the main areas of unobtanium seem correct (original exhaust & MS production wonky front mudguard) it has the later '92 nose fairing (which would mean newer screen too as they are slightly different) not sure about the agip fairing badge, (looks a little large, if you are going to view then that agip sticker shouldn't be lacquered in) the bottom half of the fairing should be black so I doubt the originality of all the front fairings and the front discs aren't original....must be due to it being a "pre production" sp4 made in 1993 which i personally wouldn't buy into along with plaque number 001 (why would the factory make number 001 2 years after production ended) without concrete proof which anybody knows would be difficult if not impossible to prove as the yoke numbers do not match the bikes.. I actually thought someone like simon le bon or the factory had number 001? .... . Thats just from what I can see having a brief look before having my dinner from one photo, if originality isnt an issue and it's cheap enough then great but I personally wouldn't be paying a premium for it.... hope it helps. thanks for responses. I'll give the SP3 in question a miss, as I want the best example I can find, guess that means some patience required !

My thread starter related to that specific bike, but my preference would be an SP2. I take it the SP2 had the last three frame digits repeated on the headstock plaque ?
