Wanting to go period for my Bevel endurance racer, I had an old corroded Daytona dampener as fitted to Darmahs. Piece of heavy crap really, solid brass guides internally. Problem 1 was travel, the SS's have 8mm more travel needed hence Kawasaki dampeners were fitted (long black skinny ones).
So I made a new tube, got it hard anodised, used POM for the piston and guides, re hard chromed the shafts, nickel plated the internal steel clips and plates, and got viton seals madeup. Wahlah , one light weight period steering dampener!
The point of the exercise, Nike, just do it!
