Stig-- a number of the better Li batteries have a Battery Management System board which does a few things-- balances the charge of the cells, shuts off the battery if overcharged, and shut off the battery if overdraws current. The battery will appear dead and will not take a charge from most Li charger- except for some of the more fancy Li chargers.
In order to re-charge, you need to re-boot the BMS board by apply 12V power to the battery.
Not sure if this happened with your LI battery-- but just something to note with the better Li batteries offered these days.
