New UK bikes in 92/ 93

Looking for a little information if possible,
In and around 1992/ 93 does anyone know who used to import new 888's for the UK market?
Any info appreciated

Back in the eighties and early nineties, Hoss Elm and Moto Cinelli were the closest thing to an official UK Ducati importer. That’s why Foggy had their logos on his tank and fairings.

The company eventually evolved into Ducati UK.

The bikes were sold through a network of local dealers, including Snells in Alton, Hampshire who are still Ducati dealers.

My ‘93 Monsters are recorded on the logbooks as unofficial imports by Moto Cinelli with one registered by Snells, and the other in Norwich.

It gives a list of the dealers on the right edge, including 3 Cross MC in Dorset, Woods in Clwyd, and Snells in Hampshire.

Don't know about 1992/3, but my 1991 SP3 was, I think, imported/supplied by Moto Cinelli but I don't know if it was purchased directly from them or from a dealer (I'm the second, not the original owner).

Good info then, Wasn't sure whether there was an official importer back then,
My log book states Declared new in GB by independent importer, I was just a little confused, I contacted DVLA a month or so ago and they said theres no record of the bike been an import so I take it there mostly all UK bikes built for the UK market if bought new in UK back in the late 80's early 90's?

I suspect that back then, the bikes were just built, not for any particular market. I guess that bikes usually got a speedo appropriate to the intended market, but even that's not a given - I think there were bikes sold in the UK that came with kph speedos! I'm lucky, mine has an mph one, but even that has a red mark at 55mph, presumably for the US market.

Having worked in many factories all over the world in the Auto Industry..........the moto is keep production going even if it means things are not 100%. Put them in the parking and deal with them later . Never stop the line !!!!!. Ducati had no real control back then and made a complete bike out of whatever fitted and looked O.K. . There were rules but...............I,m sure bikes were going all over the place. Interestingly they did have a few different electronic chips and exhausts for various markets so I guess there was some sort of testing going on. Mechanically things were all over the shop............literally.

Yes it's an import: it was made in Italy, and probably says so on the tank!

The independent importer was Moto Cinelli who didn't get official status till years later, possibly when they evolved into Ducati UK.

The inter-web is still very sparse on 80s and 90s stuff.
