dudlington Did the 851 come with a steel tank ?. Steel tanks were hinged and the 851 tanks had 1 fixing at the rear. Maybe I,m getting old but I was under the assumption that all 851,s had Alluminium tanks...................... the steel ones that came on the 888 were lighter. Maybe other markets ??????.
nedkelly Australian model. But maybe you are right and it is aluminium?? Wouldnt have thought though that rust would eat through this? Lesson learned though, dont leave fuel in the tank if it is stored for some time!
PTwo Mr.R wroteFrom the '92 bodywork update the 851 had a steel 888 shaped tank. Steve RBeing the owner of a 1992 851, I'd think this should read:"From '92 on the 851 had a steel tank, which the 888 also used."😎
dudlington Because I,ve never seen a Steel Tank on an 851 does someone have a photo of a bike with one on (Original spec not modified) ?.

Craigm Hi, I'm new to this so please excuse my ignorance and poor etiquette. I'm looking for a tank for a project race bike. Frame is a race version and never registered/no VIN, etc. Existing tank mount is a flip up type. Ned (or anyone), if you have an old one (i.e. damaged, rusted, etc) that you want to offload I may be interested. Cheers,
