seven4nineR wroteI've been thinking about making up an engine stand for quite a while now, seen a few folded sheet and fab'd frame designs, but never quite found the time to knock off what should be a pretty simple job. Plus most of the units I've seen have been pretty compact units that you either need to sit on the bench (taking up valuable real estate) or floor (painful to work on), not to mention you bust a pooper valve moving it between the two.
Then my local autoparts store had a -40% sale on automotive engine stands so I picked up one of these for the grand sum of $94AUD ($66USD).
Using some 50mm galv angle offcuts, cutting and rearranging the engine mounts in the kit, 10 minutes with the welder, a quick paint and it was job done. I was even lucky enough to find some perfect M10 wing bolts for the bottom mount on sale (another bank-breaking $3, thank you very much) at our main hardware chain to make things even more convenient.
So easy to move around the workshop now and/or work on without taking up any bench space.
Just sold one of these in favor of smaller work bench units ... as I'm short of floor space... ;-)
