Noob question: ST4 engine, 888 loom. Will it work?

I've got a '94 888 with a ST4 engine and loom. It's not looking possible to make everything including the fuel gauge work, and have it all be neat and tidy.
If I was to obtain an original 888 loom, would anything stop me from fitting it? Is there anything different on the ST4 engine that -requires- the newer loom be fitted?
Obviously an ECU flash would be needed to make it work properly.

Unless anyone has some pearls of wisdom about fitting a ST4 fuel gauge sender into the tank to make that work properly?

the st4 engine is single pick up, 1.6m ecu and 3 phase alt. the 888 is dual pick up, p8 ecu and single phase alt. if you find bits from a 2000 996sps you can make the st4 engine dual pick up, otherwise it's a lot easier to go with the 1.6m.

1.6m is an eprom ecu though, so if you plan on tuning stuff you need eprom capability. otherwise, you could use an st4s or st3 loom and 59m/5am ecu and tune it to suit. or s4/s4r loom if you wanted to move shit around i guess.

if you welded some mounts inside the 888 tank you could possibly mount the st4 fuel gauge. not sure if there's enough room vertically or either side of the pump to fit it though. loom will work with mods to fit the lcd

When I put the S4RS (Testastretta) in my 851/888 I used, at Brad's suggestion, a ST4 harness and the 1.6 ECU. Stock gauges. The only thing that wasn't correct was the temperature gauge which required that I adapt the 888 sending unit.

Yes, it's pretty quick. I should probably just sell it. At age 73 I can't throw it around like I used to !
