dudlington wroteYes I think this could be a good thread. I,m also getting on a bit and think a lift bench is a way forward but have reservations how it all stays stable. Question : how do you remove the wheels on a bench like this or does that still have to be done on the ground ????.
With mine, I've never used the front wheel clamp that you can see on Griff's photo. I've always used standard paddock stands (front/rear), or an Abba stand for more serious work like swingarm removal
Stability has never been a problem, but there has been a couple of occasions where the amount of gruntwork I've had to put into releasing (or tightening) a fixing has led me to use a ratchet strap for additional stability, just in case, but isnt generally required.
Getting the bike onto the stand can be done with the bench fully lowered - depending on the stand you just need to ensure that it fits between the raised edges (for example, you need to be pretty precise with positioning an Abba stand which occupies nearly the full width of the bench). Once on the stand(s), then you can raise the bench with no problem.
