Toni851 hi everyone, i got some questions about my 851 strada biposto '89 replacing the front brake disc rotors, i have to stick to the 5mm thick discs (when new) like stated in the 89-90 manual or can i go with the 4mm version (used on post 90 models) as well? and is it possible to buy the outer cast iron part only and where to buy it? which are the correct fuel filter and fuel pump part nr. for the early 851 strada (89-90)? following the nr. 42540011A out of the 851 racing'91 spare parts catalogue (the only reference i have), the weber f1-01 would be an option but im not sure if this filter applies to the '89 strada as well. other options i found searching for 851 fuel filter via google are mahle kl-145, mahle kl-194, ufi 317000 but those are all stated as for the post 90 models and even come in different sizes... any advice much appreciated cheers, phil
brad black if it's a biposto it's a 90 or later. 89 is single seat only. 89 and on strada should have 4mm thick stainless discs with the round holes in the carriers. the 5mm cast iron discs were oem on the sp bikes. fuel filters are available as UFI 31 501 00 or possibly KL194 the fuel pump is a bosch 0580464998. same as early bmw k series.
danbrisbane Brad, we have the 89 mono posto, you saying the 5mm Discs (that we just bought on here ) wont work? Can they be machined down to 4mm?
Toni851 thanks for the infos and the numbers brad and you right, i checked the registration papers of the bike and it says 1st june 1990. but are you sure about the 4mm? the '89-'90 workshop manual clearly says "5mm when new" (see pic). cheers, phil
brad black afaik, brembo have never made a semi floating stainless disc with steel carrier that is 5mm thick. the aluminium carrier "snowflake" disc fitted as oem to 996, etc, were 5mm thick, and later there was a 4.5mm thick version to be lighter, but all the round hole and triangle hole steel carrier stainless discs are 4mm down to 3.6mm. the sp style cast iron floating disc bolts straight on. as long as they share the same 6 bolt pattern and offset. you can get a lot of different style discs in this fitment.
Toni851 in other words, it doesnt really matter if the discs are 5mm or 4mm strong as long as they share they same 6 bolt pattern and offset
Toni851 once again about the fuel filters for the 851 strada bisposto '90... you mentioned the mahle kl-194 and the ufi 31 501 00 but what about the weber f1-01/1? because i would prefer it over the mahle and the ufi if it fits...
Mr.R Mahle is top quality kit, I wouldn't have a problem fitting it to any motorcycle, Mahle filters were OEM on KTM's until they found something cheaper. What's your problem with their kit? At the end of the day it's just a fuel filter that sits between a couple of rubber hoses, it doesn't really matter if it's larger than OEM, just as long as it isn't a lot smaller. Steve
Toni851 no doubt mahle is top quality but i like weber as a brand better and i got a good offer for a F1-01/1 so i guess i will go for it
brad black no reason to not use the weber filter. i normally start with mahle as they make the later genuine filters, and tend to be the easiest to find out here.
