I gave mine from my Tricolore to Maxton, Came back looking the same, brutal Original internals removed and badge. Now fully adjustable and what a difference.

the sports valves will give you adjustment while staying externally original.

or some will fit a cartridge. my local guy promecha does single function these days, so you'd be able to have the adjusters at the top where the air valves were.
you can gold valve them, but having to pull the valves out to adjust is a pita.

You could just throw on a set a showa's, preferably off a superlight.
MOM's 9.16.0.4 and as you see from Marco's bike, upside down Marzocchi and Ohlin's were in use in 89. If they argue, yeh but showa's aren't Marzocchi or Ohlins, silhouette is your response.
If you aren't happy about that, think of this. A certain individual has put injectors inside Dellorto's on a 1000cc bevel drive. Silhouette!
You'll be up against Bob Gardner on his hot no expenses spared 750 Pantah and maybe another bloke on a TZ if he turns up. The TZ bloke would be the one to protest if anyone could be bothered. Then inevitably if I'm there with Pete, i'll get dragged into it. But here in Qld it's unlikely as we're in it for the fun, not so much the rules.
I note also MOM's quite clearly states this year you can use non glycol coolant. So you can use that Motul purple non glycol coolant. Yey!
Are you going to Carnell?
I had a go on my bike in the regularity a couple of years ago. Great on the straight, getting a bit big to throw around for the rest of the track. I'm thinking about maybe l might get out at Lakeside this year.

Thanks Gents lot of good stuff there. Looks like we may go down this path:

Hey griff, not a mad historic racer here either, just in it for some fun. Think 851 not allowed at Carnell now as track is size limited to 650cc for Twins. Will go Lakeside 26 Jan (i hope) to run 748/996/1098 before Rnd 1 at MP in Feb. 851 still months away but hope to get it to MP in May for Masters. cheers

Well don't be in a hurry to race at Lakeside. All racing events this year including cars are cancelled. They are still having track days. I heard today that a lawyer (who moved to a house near the track) has put in a noise complaint to the council. Apparently the cars on line up breached the dB limit and ruined his peaceful morning. The owner of the track (Tetley) is furious and it's all going to go to court.... again.
So for Qld historic there is only 3 events this year. The Big Chill and its warm up event coming up soon, and the masters of Morgan park. Hopefully Sportsman's will leave space for a couple of races through the southern downs series. If not it's Victoria and NSW, but transport and time is a bit on the expensive side, and they can get a bit picky, but not too bad.
For example the rules quite clearly state belly pans and or crash bars, I can say i've never seen them fitted to anything. And I can understand that. I mean who is going to put that crap on their pride and joy Vincent, 7R, Manx, Greenframe, Patton or Brough. Nobody, and they're the bikes the crowd come to see in action. And my god if you stick that on a Motobi 125 it would take half a day just to get around the first lap.
Don't know about the 650 rule at Carnal, makes it a bit interesting when Gene Loperman the President of QEMSC and sidecar loon (also has that vision disease where you can't see anything directly in front and is legally blind), won't be able to race. Which may or may not be good news for his wife (and sidecar swinger).
If your reading this, and about now thinking to yourself, hang on. Who are these Historic racing people? You would be correct if you assume they are all madmen and women, disabled or plain just too old, and/or all of the above. But all driven to get around the track as fast as possible. It's magic to be among them. Nothing like the normal racing wankers who take it all too seriously. 😁
This year sees the return of a bloke called Max. 2 years ago he came out the last turn on to the straight at Carnal on his ex racing 500 something, wide open in second, or third, passed out, and went head first into the concrete bollard. Coma for 4 months or something, brain damage, broken hip. He's 82 years old, been racing all his life. Back on the track at lakeside just before Christmas on Trev's 350 single in 35° heat practicing for this years racing.... Go Max!

Figures! That's sort of like Roebling Rd near Savannah GA. A really old track (converted airstrip with a long straight), It's been there forever, way outside of the small town nearby. All of the houses surrounding the track have been built in the last 10-20 years. Yet they have a noise ordinance, can't even start you engine until after 8 AM. About as bad as all these people who buy a house near an airport so planes have to climb out as fast as possible! Didn't they see those planes when they bought the damn house? Or did the Realtor only show them the house when he/she knew no planes would be flying?? Todays Liberal population!!!

That airfield thing happened at RAAF Edinburgh while I was there. They built an estate at the end of the crash strip at the end of the runway. Some woman tried to get the flying restricted or the base moved because her kid couldn't get proper sleep. It's our Maritime surveillance base with P7 Orion's flying 24/7. Some people are just off with the fairies.

Wonderful ! Unfortunately there are more of the "faries" out there than the real people

I second the Maxton option. Look original from the outside but full adaptability on the inside - compression & rebound damping that work along with pre-load adjustability. Richard Adams at Maxton is very helpful and will build to a spec to suit what you want.
