Here I go again...
I've over the last 8 months or so lost over 55lbs in weight after a Doctors enforced low cholesterol diet.
I now weigh around 175 lbs, not bad for 6ft tall and 52 years old next July. 😎
The bike a 'slightly' modified '92 Strada has also undergone some weight loss and now weighs less than the 888SP models or even a standard SP(4)S.

The bikes fitted with an Ohlins shock intended for a 900 Monster, which has worked quite well in the past but...

Anyway now it's well over sprung with little hope of dialling in any sag.
On a fast ride today it kicked me out of the seat on not very bumpy roads and I had rearend slides opening the throttle when cornering, although this's with a hard old tyre fitted (Michelin Macadam) for next Wednesday's all day Dyno session to set up the new PC III usb, the bikes already putting out 110rwbhp at under 10,000 rpm.
I'm off on holiday in 4 weeks time to the IOM TT and will really need the springing to be at least in the ball park!

Next week I'll get her on a weigh bridge and weigh myself complete with full riding kit to get the all up weight and order a new spring to suit.
But if I can't remove the spring and replace it without special tools, I might as well remove the Ohlins from my '91 851/888 and get it re-built, re-valved and re-sprung to suit the new lighter weight more £££'s.

This all sounds simple/good but after buying a new PC III, Baseline 916 chips, TPS, fuel pump, ordering new Michelin Pilot Road 2CT's (It's a dead cert to rain on the Island) and having to pay for the Dyno set up, I've got a lot less than NO MONEY.
There's absolutely no cash put away for the Holiday!
I didn't do all of this work to not go on holiday, so I'll be going away using a Cerdit Card and paying for it later, which isn't that good.

So as they title of this thread asks, does anyone know for certain wether I can swap the springs on a Ohlins shock without any special tools?
Which would save me some very much needed cash.
I know I can find this out next week, but if I need to I could be removing the shock from the '91 851/888 over the next 2 days (saving some much needed time) as we have a Bank holiday this weekend, when I'd rather be putting a few more miles on the recently (new main bearings less than 300 miles ago) rebuilt motor before the Dyno runs.
