After waiting two months for parts and getting some time to work on my motor I finally have it ready for the pistons/cylinders. I had just cleaned up some of the carbon when I found mucho damage to the horizontal piston (surpise surprise as the cylinder was also badly scored). It is nicked up pretty bad. I tried to smooth it out with a file but to no avail. One thing I noticed is that the 94mm pistons I have have a slightly raised center about 0.30mm. I don't know if this was to give a tad more compression or what. Is this thing (piston) worth saving? Can it be machined (shaved down) flat to removed the imperfections and still be used? (still able to get 1mm squish with gaskets) I would have to do the same with the other undamaged one. If not I will have to source some oem 888 pistons. Or I could source some ST4 pistons but doubt I could make up (down) 2mm as I have stock crank and I'd need basically no gaskets.

ps. I just thought of this, if I shave the pistons down then the valve pockets would not be deep enough... I really need some 888 pistons.

pps. I could even get some 851 flat pistons.. I have the barrels.. but I really want to retain 888cc.

ppps. I may have found a lister who has some 888 pistons for sale... Waiting to hear back.. thanks, Robert
