As most of you will know I've got a bit of a fetish about losing weight from my bikes.
I like them to go faster, handle better, be easy to throw around whilst riding them and easy to move/lift push etc.
I've got my '92 851 now down to under 400lbs fully wet with 17 litre's of fuel.
It's still got the original steel fuel tank and now 5 spoke alloy wheels, no magnesium wheels or carbon or alloy tank yet.
There's an earlier alloy tank, carbon air box, "X" shaped runners a lightened motor still waiting in the wings...

Anyway today whilst working on the "Old Nail" I decided to weigh the cable rev counter drive that I'd recently removed, as I about to fit an electronic rev counter.
The drive unit complete with drive cable weighed just over 1lb 2oz's and I'm pretty sure the electronic rev counter will weigh less than the OEM cable driven unit.

Steve B/duc904red was at my place last week and he wondered just how much more weight could be lost from one, whilst still keeping a full lighting compliment, starter motor inc' idle gears etc, decent charging system and powerful battery, without going down the mag' wheels/lighter fuel tank route?
I reckon that somewhere around 390lbs should easily be on the cards and possibly lower.
I've got a few more ideas/tricks up my sleeve to lose a bit more weight, but the nearer the goal the harder it gets

I'm just about to lighten my RRR/Corse clip ons as they're waaay to long, they're so thin/lightened (been shot peened) that the 996 switch gear I'm using just rotates around them when fully tightened, (the brake and clutch M/cyclinders tighten up OK) I've to either wrap them in tape or get them powder coated to get the switch gear to fit them.
I normally end up rubbing down/polish the bars to make the switch gear, throttle assembly fit spot on/work smoothly.
