Default 1992 Ducati 888 SP4 CA, USA

Due to health reasons, I am having to sell both my Ducati motorcycles. My 996 SPS has now sold, but I have decided to list my 1992 888 SP4 for sale on this forum first in the hope that a fellow forum member will purchase it before going to other usual routes. It has covered 40,220 kms (25,000 miles). I am the fifth owner since brand new. It has a complete documented service history dating back to the first owner. It had a major service carried out by JHP Ducati at a cost of £1400 in April 2008. It was first owned by the service manager at NCR, Italy back in '92. The original owner's manual, warranty booklet and service booklet have always followed the bike. Over the years, the following tasteful modifications have been carried out by the various owners:

- 5 Spoke black Marchesini magnesium wheels
- Brembo billet brake & clutch master cylinders
- Gia Co Moto billet rear sets
- Ducati Corse magnesium clutch cover
- 888 SPS rear brake set-up
- Ohlins steering damper
- CF exhaust hangers

The bike is in beautiful shape and has not been in any accidents. Currently runs on a 14/39 sprocket setup. I want to say that it's one of only three, maybe four SP4's in the United States. I guess that makes it pretty rare. Also provided with the bike are the original black three spoke wheels, a brand new SP4 gas tank (rare), if I can find them, the OEM rearsets and last, but not least, an 1993 888 frame from a US 888 SPO that has been powder-coated white but with the 17 digit VIN number still visible which comes on a clear title. Knowing how rare these bikes are in the US, the overall condition of the bike, the proper adult Ducati mods carried out and the service history provenance, the selling price of $31,000 reflects all of this. If you have any questions, please feel free to email me at ripper996@yahoo.com. Thanks, Ripper.

Thanks guys. Nothing mega serious, but something that I have to live with. Spoken to a few forum members and they are totally supportive and understand. Should she go to the right home, I'll still be an active forum member.

Are we playing a game of chinese whispers?

So the original SP4 and a spare SPO frame have now become a reframed non genuine SP4!

That's how malicious rumours and gossip starts.

Seems I read the write-up wrong and took it that the SPO frame was being used for the SP4.

So no Chinese checkers mate..... just a normal fugg-up.

Tom/Ripper,
I hope the ill health isn't anything terminal or takes too long to get over.
If the bike has been re-framed is this a way around getting the bike registered for the road in the USA?
I do know that Tom/Ripper bought a/the original genuine SP4 from John Hackett/JHP Ducati Coventry and it was the real deal.

Peter,
Iz dinum know about they 'Chinese Whispers'.
I struggle with English since I'z bin down 'ere in Kernow for sooo long now.
Nessie had to help me to get the spelling right on that bit!

Tasty bike though, I'd buy it if I was over in the States, (if the OEM frame came with the deal) or if it comes with a spare 888/SPO frame.

I don't think that Mike was being a meddling little devil here, rather he was asking a very pertinent question, as on re-reading the post it's not very clear/Plain English.

Off course that lot would have to F**k Off down 'ere, theym being a bunch of 'Emmets'...

The original SP4 frame is still on the bike. I bought a '93 SPO frame 2 years ago. Sort of a 'just in case' purchase.

My all-time dream bike. If it was only juuuust a wee bit less $$$ I would be right there. Best of luck w/ the sale... and not that it isn't worth it, but if you come down on the price down the road (or I get some $$ I don't know about yet) do be in touch! Cheers.
