Thats how I ride mine, a couple of years back, on a ride to my lake cottage, there is a two mile piece of road with no driveway or intersections on it, the claimed speed of the sp4 was 161mph I got the needle a click or two past 150 before I backed off. I know these speedo's are not accurate but if the patrol came over the hill ahead my bike would have been impounded and I a ride back to town in the back the patrol car. Like I tell my friend when he says I should get a different bike , "I ain't savin it for some other fuk to ride"
PS I bought it used in 97 and was tolled by people I would not be able to get it titled here but I bought it anyway-- things work out

Dare I ask why you're selling it, as I remember you buying it not very long ago from John at Mdina's?

Ah, yes, this is true. Well to be honest I don't get round to riding her much, mainly because my focus has now almost exclusively shifted to track-time. Seems a shame to sit on something so nice when it's going nowhere....!

I really hope that you're enjoying your investment mate.
My 'humble' Strada will be out there again this year, can you say the same?
For the cost of one over priced SP I could build 2 rocket ship Strada's using 2nd hand parts from other models. (they might not be 851/888cc's anymore though )
I know this because I've got 2 of the old 'humble' nails*...
Things have moved on since the SP851/888's were at the top of the Ducati tree, using cheap to buy parts from later Ducati's you can easily make them sooo much faster than any of the exoctic SP models.
*The '91 851/888 with Hi comp' pistons, dailed in cams, modified 748 heads, Hackett chip, open topped airbox/ITG filter and 50mm carbon cans is easily as quick as your SP3.
I paid £2300 for it and I've removed well over £2000 worth of kit from it**, to be replaced with the standard kit laying around my home before selling the bike on...
**Full Corse carbon fairing/moulded from Foggy's semi works bike, AP Lockheed adustable ratio front brake M/Cylinder, Race Ohlins rear shock and carbon 50mm cans, I'll also remove the Hi comp' pistons/barrels aswell before punting it on.

Bring on the standard SP's, I know of more than a few tricked up Strada's that'll blow their power figures out of the water...
Fuk 'Lets have a poll' lets go for a dyno shoot out!

You my friend are being wicked,You know the Southerners will bite alot quicker than the Geordies!!

They take everything so personal! Although when you look at the price of their properties it shows they have a sense of humour!!

You will have more bites than a cow in a river full of Piranhas!!

Hi Jasper,
Of course right, I was at work this morning and thought...
Doh I really took Spike's bait on that one didn't I.

Re: House prices,
they've gone well beyond a joke down 'ere, but if we ever wanted to sell up we could live like Kings up North.
Buy a HUGE house, some land and I'd probably never have to work again.
Not sure if I could eat Whippet stew though, but I look quite fetching in a flat cap according to Mrs R.

steve i,m hurt , you dont realise how deep your cutting remarks have sliced into my fragile yorkshire body , i almost feel embarassed to own the sp, which sadly as you say still is in its component form in the loft .. yes in fact i feel obliged to cast out the monstrosity into the local tip , what were ducati thinking of when they tried to create a motorcycle of limited numbers bearing every state of the art component of the time .. the fools .. did they not know that all they needed to do was give the racers of the time a strada and tell em to wait for 20 yrs and take it down to nearly france and it would get sorted !!!!

Hi Spike,
Yes of course you're right...
But I'm not bitting this time mate!

On another note tonight we're having a long/slow cooked Beef Stew it smells wonderful, does Whippet stew smell the same?
I only ask as my old Dad once told me a little story...
He and his 'Band of Brothers' had fought the fight into Germany after Arnhem and hadn't seen any meat other than bully beef or Spam for quite some time, so they shot a Fox with a 303, one of the lads had been a butcher so he sorted out what was left of it and they roasted it over an open fire.
Dad said it smelled wonderful, the flesh caramelised like the best BBQ'd meat you've ever seen and they couldn't wait until they could tuck into it, they were all drooling over the thought of the taste/smell of real meat...
Well they carved the meat with a short bayonet and tucked in, started to chew then one by one they all spat it out??
He reckoned that it tasted as near to eating dog shit as you could possibly imagine dog shit would taste.
...and those 4 Yorkshiremen thought that they'd had it tough!

Bye for now mate,

Steve R

PS As you've alluded to times have moved on and it's fairly easy to extract more power than the factory did all those years ago by using parts from later models.
I've never felt guilty about 'Standing on the shoulders of Giants', only a fool would ingnore what's been tried/learnt before.

PPS If you really are going to 'Skip' Triggers Broom?
I've got a nice tip at the bottom of my garden mate.
