Default 888 strada V piece surgery for oil cooler ?

    Hi All,

A while back I added an oil cooler to by '94 888 Strada, but the V piece doesn't really fit now. I guess bikes which came with oil cooler as standard either didn't have a V piece or had a different V piece without the grill.

Anyway, since the oil cooler is on to stay, I may as well cut the V piece to fit properly, specifically cutting it to remove some or all of the grill. Has anyone ever done this ?, and any recommendation of where to cut, what tool to use, and paint to use for touch up afterwards etc etc.

    Any suggestions/comments welcome.

    Cheers,
    John

Seems odd that it fouls the V piece, I have an old ST4S curved one on my road bike and a standard style straight one on the race bike. Neither seem to have any problems.
    How have you mounted it?

Hi John, I sourced one of the earlier square type oil coolers and have no problem with the V piece. What style of cooler did you get? or how is it mounted?

I used a ST4 oil cooler for mine and it fits perfect behind the V piece. It's curved to match the curvature of the V piece.

The '92 onwards "V" piece should clear a standard SP(4)S, SP5 or later 916 type coolers without any problems.

I'm using a flat one, mounted from the valve cover. Maybe I should just swing it back a bit ?

    Thanks
