    Default Battery recommendations

Fed up with adhoc battery performance on the bike.

The bike gets minimal use and is hooked to a ctek - what do must people go for battery wise these days ? Run if the mill or a higher performance jobbie ?! It's been some time since I've had to buy a battery to be honest !

    Cheers

I use one of these in my SP3 and it can be recharged with a regular 12V battery charger in 6 minutes. Weighs 1.1 Kg and has 290 CCA. No problems with it so far and no need to trickle charge it.

The battery recommended for our bikes is the LFP12B-4. Try these links.

Well - found an odyssey PC680 battery locally and what a difference - I don't think I've ever seen it turn over so strongly ! 85 though and 1 .4 kilos heavier than the varta it replaced - never mind - I was sick of the battery being hit and miss and I'm not out to break any lap records :-)

I found the same with the Lithium, plenty of juice.. Will be interesting to see if it can be charged in 6 minutes and lasts 10 years....

I used to run a Odyssey PC545 on my '92 851/916cc it's smaller and lighter then the PC680, it was recommended to me by a DOCGB member who'd had one fitted on his 888SP2 for years.
It's been a very good reliable battery for several years, although in very cold weather I used to hook it up to a trickle charger.
However I now have a super lightweight Ballistic Lithium one to fit.

I'd be interested in your experiences with the ballistic battery Steve, I have an 8 cell (not ballistic) lithium battery on my 999r engined bike and it can't handle the compression when cold. When the motor is hot it's fine but it's a real lottery when stone cold, it just cannot turn it over...
I tried Shorai lithium a a couple of years back and they seemed ok on the application I had back then but the risk of killing the battery inadvertently put me off them. I was going to put the 999r on an odyssey but maybe I'll see what you think about ballistic first :-)

    Hi,

I've got a 12 cell Ballistic to try, a mate tried a 8 cell Ballistic on his 888 but it wasn't up to the job.

    Steve,

Just curious if you fit the 12 cell yet. I know its 3.5inches wide and the batt I've got now is 3.25 and just barely has room being elevated and moved toward the rear of the battery box.
